Almost as soon as I first had clay in my hands I was drawn to make marble games. Adding a dimension of movement and interaction to ceramics was fun and fulfilling. Playing with these games is sometimes an end unto itself, a relaxation, a soothing sound, a repetition and sense of control and containment. Quickly, though, I saw its usefulness to expressing ideas like the thoughts and sounds that go around and around in your head, the way society channels and manipulates a person's outcomes based on their gender, or how viruses spread and how difficult it is to constrain them.
Mind Games
$3500
16" x 17" x 20"
Mixed Media Ceramic
Mind Games is a metaphor for the thoughts that go through our heads. Some bounce around endlessly, some lodge themselves places that stick, some go right through us. Marbles represent thoughts that pass through our head. There are multiple entrances and 3 potential exits. The figures in the inside the brain are Moody Blues resulting from stuck thoughts, those outside are the shadow figures of endless chatter.
