SOLI: Solitaire Solutions

Soli: Solitaire Solutions is a card-based system that enables individuals to solve self-defined problems. Participants propose specific problems to solve and, through the playing and interpretation of the game, expanded perceptive and creative levels beyond their consciousness are elicited. Soli is an interactive artwork based on an original copyrighted manuscript. The goal of the project is widespread accessibility to an efficacious problem solving system designed for independent use.

Soli: Solitaire Solutions transforms and updates the traditional roots of Solitaire and the historical symbolism of playing cards, creating a contemporary tool to explore present issues. Soli is the plural of solo, which references the fact that the game brings more to bear on the problem than a player’s conscious self.

To play Soli, a player dedicates their game to the solution of a specific problem. The way that particular game is played gives insight into the stated problem’s solution, which can be interpreted with the aid of the artist’s manuscript. Soli is ideally self-generated and self-interpreted. It is a tool that allows a player tangible access to their own inner resources and guidance. Soli works by allowing metaphorical consideration of an issue. Metaphor gives fresh perspective and depersonalizes a dilemma. This process takes each problem into the realm of universal archetypal energies.

Created to be played individually and self-interpreted, Soli is currently presented by the artist as moderator and teacher of the system. Soli can be presented one on one or in small groups.
