Inspired by a fresco in Florence's San Lorenzo, I'm always fascinated with the dichotomy between women personifying ideals such as Justice, Faith and Charity and the actual treatment of average human women.

Partly exploring virgin/whore stereotypes, God making womenkind suffer the pains of childbirth forever because of Eve's transgression with that apple, the other main visual symbol here is from a boar who grows his protective and combative tusks so long that they eventually impale and kill him.

Contemplation on a woman in a situation of domestic violence or other abuse, the body folds itself inward for protection. The birdlike form above the figure is a Micronesian navigation chart. In this way of navigation waves are depicted moving around a still boat.
